Scream

Inspired by the painting "The Scream" by Edvard Munch

a scream shoots itself into
the bloody clouds and black
tar sea, staining silence.
It rips everything from the root
and throws it to the wind,
dismantles peace from its
concrete base and watches it
storm off into space,
away from the moon’s gaze -
beyond the stars reach.

  3. I love the way you describe the retreat from calm.

when I studied art this painting always disturbed me. I knew that Munch understood intense pain and agony.

    very well done
    thanks for your Dickens comment

P.S. don't know if you know about One Shot Wednesday. Your quality of poetry would be enjoyed. We are growing but we dont want to intimidate. Poetry I believe should be sipped like wine not guzzled.

  4. moondustwriter,
you're quite right, Munch did know agony having been sick for most of his life. But if I recall correctly, his description of this painting was of the world letting out a scream- I thought I'd take a shot at it with words!

Thank you for the kind comment and invite to One shot Wednesday. I have posted there before and shall do it again.
